Day by Day Program
Day 1: Arrive in Moshi – Lemosho Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp
After arriving in Moshi, you’ll be transferred to the Lemosho Gate to begin your trek. From here, the trail enters a lush rainforest, home to various bird species and wildlife. The walk is relatively gentle, giving you the opportunity to adjust to the altitude. After reaching Mti Mkubwa Camp, you’ll enjoy a hearty dinner and rest for the night.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 1 Camp
Today, you’ll continue your trek through the forest, gradually ascending into the moorland zone. As you climb, the terrain changes, with views of Kilimanjaro’s rugged landscape becoming more dramatic.
The trail leads you to Shira 1 Camp, where you’ll spend the night surrounded by beautiful vistas of Mount Kilimanjaro. The slow and steady climb ensures proper acclimatization.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp
After breakfast, you’ll ascend towards the Shira Plateau, with its wide, open spaces and panoramic views of the mountain. This day is perfect for acclimatization as you continue climbing at a moderate pace.
The camp at Shira 2 sits at 3,850 meters, providing excellent views of the summit and the surrounding valleys. Relax and rest in preparation for the upcoming days.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp – Barranco Camp
This is a relatively long day as you cross the Shira Plateau and make your way towards the Barranco Valley. Along the way, you’ll pass through alpine desert zones, with beautiful vistas and dramatic landscapes. The final descent to Barranco Camp at 3,960 meters offers stunning views of the mountain and the Barranco Wall. Take it easy and acclimatize as you prepare for the ascent tomorrow.
Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
Today’s trek takes you up the famous Barranco Wall, a thrilling but manageable climb. Once you conquer the wall, the path leads to Karanga Camp at 4,035 meters, situated in a picturesque valley. Along the way, you’ll be treated to magnificent views of Mount Kilimanjaro and its glaciers. The pace is steady, allowing for proper acclimatization.
Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
Today’s trek leads you to Barafu Camp, located at 4,640 meters. The route is relatively short but involves some steep climbs, as you ascend towards the alpine desert zone. The trek offers some of the best views of the surrounding landscapes, including glaciers and rugged terrain. At Barafu Camp, you’ll rest and prepare for the summit attempt the following day.
Day 7: Barafu Camp – Summit – Mweka Camp
The day you’ve been waiting for! You’ll begin your summit push at midnight or early in the morning, hiking through the night to reach the summit, Uhuru Peak, at 5,895 meters.
The trek is challenging, but the views at sunrise from the top of Africa are absolutely worth it. After reaching the summit, you’ll descend to Mweka Camp for the night, celebrating your achievement.
Day 8: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi
On your final day, you’ll descend through the rainforest back to Mweka Gate, where you’ll be greeted with certificates of accomplishment. The descent is easy, giving you time to reflect on your incredible journey. Afterward, you’ll be transferred back to Moshi for a well-earned rest. This marks the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure, with memories to last a lifetime.
